Geography
At Revoe Learning Academy, our vision is for our young geographers to become informed and active future citizens who understand how their lives are connected to others and how they impact on the environments they inhabit. Through this, we ensure they grow to make responsible choices for the future. Our purpose is to embed and deepen the children’s knowledge of the interaction between physical and human processes, and of the formation and use of landscapes and environments. We encourage our children to be inquisitive about the world, open-minded and fascinated about diverse cultures within their community and further afield. Through our carefully planned and sequenced curriculum, we expect our students to acquire key skills in using geographic resources and tools. Additionally, they will develop their capabilities in fieldwork where they are able to record grid references to build their knowledge of the United Kingdom and the wider world. They will also develop the specific skills required to observe, measure, record and present the human and physical features in our local area. They grow in awareness of global climate issues and explore what actions we can take to create a more sustainable future for all. |

How Geography is taught:
Geography is taught on a bi-weekly basis, in rotation with History. This structure enables pupils to revisit and consolidate their understanding throughout the term. Each session lasts 75 minutes, allowing children to engage deeply with the subject matter and immerse themselves in meaningful exploration and enquiry.
We are Geographers
Our Geography Curriculum develops the essential characteristics of geographers:
At Revoe, children receive a rich, broad, balanced and deep curriculum enabling them to gain an appreciation of life in all its fullness. Whilst the importance of geographical knowledge is recognised, we also wish to inspire and create globally-aware pupils who have the skills and attitudes to continue to appreciate the world around them.
Geography Enrichment:
At Revoe Learning Academy, we provide a wide range of enrichment opportunities to bring geography to life. These include educational trips, themed days, and visits from specialists such as the River Ribble Trust, Blackpool Council Park Rangers, and Community Rail. Our annual Fieldwork Fortnight encourages every year group to engage in active geography and explore the outdoors. Pupils take part in trips to local parks, Beacon Fell, Marton Mere, Wyre Estuary, Nick Nook, the zoo, and even other schools for collaborative fieldwork. They also experience contrasting landscapes through visits to the Lake District and our annual residential at Waterpark in Coniston, where children encounter different terrain and wildlife. These experiences deepen understanding and inspire a love of geography beyond the classroom. |

Geography at home:
Learning doesn’t stop at the classroom door! Parents can help spark a love for geography by exploring maps together, discussing places visited, watching nature documentaries, or simply talking about different cultures and climates. Every conversation helps children see the world with curiosity and care. |
