Poppy was invited to attend a Canine First Aid course with another therapy dog from Kingcraig school. Both dogs were willing and very well behaved patients, allowing staff from various local schools to learn and practice how to correctly administer first aid.
It is a special day for Poppy as it's her birthday. She visited Nursery where they sang 'happy birthday' remembering to give her two claps at the end as she is 2 years old. She looked after the birthday hat while the children made her birthday cards and a cake out of play dough. Poppy would like to say a huge thank you to everyone for her lovely cards, gifts and birthday wishes.
On Wednesday, RLA was open for parents to help the children make poppies in our Poppy Craft Afternoon. The poppies will be displayed outside school for Remembrance Day.
For Remembrance, Revoe has welcomed war veterans. Year 6 have thoroughly enjoyed learning how how Mr Clement fought in Afganistan where he lost both of his legs after an IED attack. They asked lots of questions, got to see photographs and hold medals of heroic actions.
Year 5 had a visitor on Tuesday from Mrs Cropper’s Dad Jim! They got to learn all about him growing up in Mereside, Blackpool and going on to join the RAF at 16. The children discovered how he fought for his country in the Falklands and Gulf conflicts. Back in 1991 Revoe Primary School (class 6RD) wrote a letter to him during the Gulf war- luckily Mrs Cropper’s mum kept it safe and the children got to read and enjoy this piece of history. They got to see photographs that Jim took, hold his medals and wear his RAF hat! Year 5 were a credit to Revoe and a fun afternoon was had by all.
Year 4 + 5 beat a rhythmic path to a new skill with African dance and drumming tuition yesterday. After learning about the instruments, traditions, music and dance of Africa they celebrated their new found expertise in a whole school assembly.
In the Blackpool Primary Schools dodgeball competition, our RLA team won all 3 games against Holy Family, Gateway and St Theresas. We then also went on to beat Mereside in the final! Well done to the team who played brilliantly and were a credit to our school with their impeccable behaviour and manners.
Poppy has achieved her Bronze Level on the School Therapy Dog Training Programme. She received a certificate and also a rosette for achieving 100%. The in-school assessor, wrote, “Poppy is a fabulous dog and is doing fantastic work in her role at RLA”. Well done Poppy!!
We are celebrating National Grandparents day with a special event. We have story books on hand and card making activities along with hot drinks and biscuits for our children to share a memorable moment with their favourite grownups.
Today a new bear visited year 3. He has been travelling around the world and has just got off the train at Euston. In English, we are going to write stores about his adventures. He is Paddington bear's cousin and he likes eating jam sandwiches. We have decided to call him Euston.
Nursery 2 children have been settling into their new environment with the help of Poppy our school Therapy dog. She has enjoyed going for walks and listening to the children as they chat to her about all they are doing. The children are being encouraged to write letters to her as they have lots of questions they would like answered. We are hoping to find out what her favourite book is as we have shared lots of our stories with her!
